NORTH PORT — The man responsible for leading the charge on the Save Our Springs movement has decided to try to take his efforts to another level, after announcing he plans to run for the North Port City Commission seat currently held by Linda Yates.

Eric Kotte, a 76-year-old Poland native, is a longtime North Port resident who has organized several protests of the closing of the 81-acre Warm Mineral Springs Day Spa. The property is owned jointly by the city and Sarasota County, and closed June 30 after the boards failed to secure a contract to operate the city’s only tourist attraction.
