SOUTH VENICE — A North Port woman was seriously injured Monday morning after her pickup was struck by a car and overturned on U.S. 41, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A 2011 Ford Taurus driven by Marguerite Miller, 79, of Venice, was stopped facing east at a stop sign at 4312 S. Tamiami Trail, in front of Bob Evans Restaurant in South Venice, shortly after 9 a.m., an FHP report shows. A 2001 Nissan Frontier truck was heading north on U.S. 41 in the right lane. Miller drove onto 41, failing to observe the oncoming pickup, and struck the side of it, the report shows. The truck, driven by Virginia Mae Bonker, 68, of North Port, spun around, veering across the grass median onto the southbound lanes of 41 and overturning into a ditch, the FHP reported. Bonker, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton in serious condition, the report shows. Miller, who was also wearing a seat belt, was not hurt. She was cited for violation of right of way from a stop, the report shows.
