SARASOTA COUNTY — In a move that may come as a surprise to some — given his firing in October — former Sarasota County administrator Randall Reid has been chosen the “citizen of the year” for 2013 by an area watchdog organization.
Reid is being honored by Control Growth Now, an organization that seeks oversight of key issues in the county, such as urban sprawl, protection of neighborhoods and the environment. According to the group’s website, it also seeks to control placement of the cost of roads and other facilities that serve new development on the developers — not on the backs of the taxpaying public. Control Growth Now president and local attorney Dan Lobeck said the group decided to honor Reid because he “put ethics and sensible planning first in his service to all of the people of Sarasota County.”
