Southwest Florida’s job market closed out 2013 on a strong note, with much of the region outperforming the state and the nation, according to state unemployment figures released Friday.
The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity reported that Charlotte, Sarasota and DeSoto counties’ unemployment rates in December dropped to a non-seasonally adjusted rate of 5.8 percent, 5.6 percent and 6.4 percent, respectively. That’s the lowest unemployment has been in the region since the start of the recession in late 2007, official records show.
