SARASOTA COUNTY — Sarasota County took home top honors for the region’s best drinking water at the Florida’s Section of the American Water Works Association’s 2014 Region X Best Tasting Drinking Water Contest held recently at the T. Mabry Carlton Jr. Water Treatment Plant in Venice.
More than 40 representatives from Sarasota, Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee and Hardee counties along with the cities of North Port, Sarasota and Englewood and others in the water industry took part in the event. Judges tasted eight samples of drinking water based on clarity, taste, scent and color. They included executive director of the Florida section of the AWWA Peggy Guingoni and past chair of the Florida Section of the AWWA Rick Radcliffe. Among the samples of water presented was one from the Peace River Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority, which won the state title for best drinking water last year.
