SARASOTA COUNTY — The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two suspects in connection with the armed robbery of McDonald’s, 4269 S. Tamiami Trail in Venice, last week.
Shortly after the restaurant closed at midnight on March 7, there was a knock on the back door. Two employees didn’t see anyone through the peephole so they opened the door. At that time, an armed suspect wearing a bandana over his face barged in, pointed his gun at employees and ordered them to the back of the store, a sheriff’s report shows. The suspect grabbed a handful of money and fled but was not immediately located. Detectives identified two suspects: Nicholas Holt, 18, 8100 block of Trifono Ave., North Port, and Christopher Browning, 21, 1400 block of Roosevelt Drive, Venice. During interviews, both confessed to the crime, the report shows. Holt is charged with armed robbery and Browning is charged with principal to armed robbery for helping to plan the robbery and driving the getaway car, officials said. Both are being held at the Sarasota County Jail without bond.
