NORTH PORT — Join the nation’s largest community improvement program this weekend and help keep your community beautiful.
The public is invited to volunteer for the Great American Cleanup along the Myakkahatchee Creek greenway in North Port from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 15. Check-in is at 8 a.m. at North Port City Hall, 4970 City Hall Blvd., off Sumter Boulevard. T-shirts will be provided to volunteers who register, as well as supply kits (gloves and trash bags). Refreshments will be available for participants at Oaks Park after the cleanup. Keep Sarasota County Beautiful is a countywide beautification program that initiates community cleanup projects to help keep our community free of debris. The organization is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful Inc., a national, nonprofit, public education organization dedicated to improving waste handling practices in American communities. The program’s mission is “to enhance and promote public interest and participation in the general improvement of the environment throughout Sarasota County,” via education, cleanup programs, recycling and other methods of reducing solid waste. If you or someone you know would like to volunteer for the Great American Cleanup, call North Port Parks and Recreation at 941-429-PARK (7275) or register online at www.cityofnorthport.com under “Parks and Recreation,” “Special Events,” then “Great American Cleanup.”
