SARASOTA COUNTY — Philippe Nahon died with an empty plastic beer cup in his hand.

Forensic photographs taken not long after Michael W. Rice put a single .40-caliber bullet through Nahon’s head showed a man who expected to have a relaxing day at the pool. He was dressed in swim trunks and flip-flops, was shirtless, and was going back up to the tiki bar at Bentley’s Hotel in Osprey for his second beer of the day on May 26, 2012. It was Memorial Day weekend.
