Crowds in the Englewood Beach area for the inaugural Charlotte Harbor Super Boat Grand Prix were mostly relaxed, despite a handful of weekend arrests and a half-dozen medical 911 calls to the beach area during the race, according to officials.
“Overall, we had a great debut,” Super Boat Grand Prix president Jerry York said Monday. “There were a lot of naysayers who live here on South Manasota Key. There was so much anxiety about all the bad things that could have happened. Everyone was really cautious and afraid there would be trespassing and things like that, but there wasn’t much.”
