SARASOTA COUNTY — Jury deliberations in the insanity defense trial of Michael W. Rice, who is charged with the first-degree murder of Philippe Nahon, are stretching into a second day.
The 12-member jury broke for deliberations around 4:45 p.m. Monday at the Sarasota County Justice Center, and 12th Circuit Judge Frederick Mercurio let them discuss the case for an hour before allowing them to leave for the day. They’re expected to reconvene at 9 a.m. today, the trial’s seventh day.
