NORTH PORT — Bruce Isbell hopes to secure additional volunteers to drive needy North Port residents to doctors’ appointments and grocery stores.

Isbell, 72, is president of Friends In Service Here of North Port Inc. — known as FISH — and said the state-registered nonprofit organization receives no government funding and would not exist at all if not for the efforts of its volunteers. The group started up in 1982, the brainchild of a group of local churches.
