WARM MINERAL SPRINGS — The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, working in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force, has captured a father and teenage son wanted for a brutal home invasion robbery on Santurce Avenue near North Port in April.
Around 6 a.m. April 25, two males wearing ski masks forced their way into the home off Ortiz Boulevard in Warm Mineral Springs and held the victims at gunpoint, bound their hands with duct tape and demanded their wallets and keys to vehicles parked out front, a sheriff’s report shows. When the suspects freed the hands of one of the victims so he could sign the titles over to them, the victims, two men ages 33 and 27, fought back, one with a baseball bat. There was a long, violent fight between the victims and their attackers — whose guns were not real — leaving all parties with serious injuries, according to the SCSO. During the struggle, one of the victims was able to remove a suspect’s mask, the report shows. Both attackers fled in a red Ford pickup belonging to a victim.
