NORTH PORT — Fort Myers-based lawyer Mark Moriarty became the city of North Port’s first in-house attorney Monday morning following a 20-minute special meeting to discuss salary and contract details.

Moriarty, an assistant city attorney for the city of Fort Myers, signed an employment agreement, along with Mayor Jim Blucher and City Clerk Helen Raimbeau, following a 4-1 vote for contract approval by the commission, with Tom Jones dissenting. The signatures solidify a changing of the guard for North Port, which has held a contract with Nelson-Hesse, City Attorney Rob Robinson’s Sarasota legal firm, for more than a dozen years.
