SARASOTA COUNTY — In the wake of Tuesday’s primary election, the contest for the Sarasota County School Board District 1 seat dropped from a four-way race to a two-way race, with Ken Marsh and Bridget Ziegler — appointed to fill the seat left vacant when Carol Todd stepped down this summer — winning enough votes to advance to the general election in November.

Meanwhile, incumbents Shirley Brown and current School Board Chairwoman Jane Goodwin both easily gained the 50 percent plus one of the vote needed to clinch re-election to School Board District seats 4 and 5, respectively. School Board races are nonpartisan.
