Olympia “Ollie” Guenin, 94, of North Port, Fla., and formerly of Cresskill, N.J., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013.
Ollie was born May 10, 1919, in Mamaroneck, N.Y., the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Francis Auleta.
She retired from the Bank of New York, and later founded and owned Professional Microfilming Service. Prior to moving to North Port, Ollie was a commissioner of recreation in the Village of Mamaroneck, and later worked for the recreation department in Tampa, Fla. Her North Port community activities included the North Port Kitchen Band; a driver and caller for FISH (Friends In Service Here); VP of the American Legion Auxiliary, the North Port Senior Center, the San Pedro Ladies Guild and the Holy Name Society; and volunteering at Quality Health Care Center. Her warm smile and winning personality will be missed by all.
Ollie is survived by her life partner of 38 years, Althea “Buddy” Hughes of North Port; and multiple nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Guenin.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at San Pedro Catholic Church, with inurnment to follow at Venice Memorial Gardens in Venice, Fla. Memorial Donations may be given to the Suncoast Humane Society. To send condolences, visit www.farleyfuneralhome.com.
