Eunice M. Baker Banes

Mrs. Eunice M. Baker Banes, 87, of North Port, Fla., passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte, Fla.

She was born April 15, 1926, in McEwen, Tenn., to George and Alice Reynolds Baker.

Eunice was married to James Wilson Banes Sr. She was a retired sewing machine operator for General Motors in Livonia, Mich., where she worked for almost 25 years.

In Florida, she was very active with The Garden Club, The Red Hats and the Widows Club. Eunice enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, line dancing, playing pinochle, and she loved traveling. She was a member of South Biscayne Church, where she enjoyed Bible Study and helping with the completion of the Christmas banners.

Eunice was a wonderful, loving mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be missed by many.

Eunice is survived by her son, James Wilson Banes Jr. of North Port; daughter, Debra Banes (J.C.) Topping of North Port; three grandchildren, James Banes III, Jessica Banes and Sean Topping; and great-granddaughter, Lyric Pyles. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wilson Banes Sr.; son, George David Banes; parents, George and Alice Reynolds Baker; and brother, J.D. Baker.

Visitation with the family will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, and from 10 a.m. until the funeral service time at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in McEwen. The Rev. Tony Curtis will officiate. Interment will follow at Taylortown Cemetery in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.
