William R. Calvano Sr., 80, of North Port, Fla., died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, Fla., with his family at his side.
He was born April 14, 1933, in Fall River, Mass., to Alborico Calvano and Pearl Tom Calvano.
William came to this area in 1998 from Royal Oak, Mich. He was an engineer for the General Motors Company, working in the Chevrolet Manufacturing Division and Truck and Bus Group, retiring after 32 years of service. William served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, from 1951 until 1955, receiving the National Defense Service Medal.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Belinda (nee Renteria); children, William Calvano Jr. of Naperville, Ill., Robert (Tandye) of Chongqing, China, Linda (Patrick) Carr of Troy, Mich., Justin Wuolukka of Port Charlotte, Shawn Wuolukka of Traverse City, Mich., Andres (Amber) Wuolukka of Royal Oak, Adriana (Michael) Bruci of Sterling Heights, Mich., Kirsten (Chris) Morrow of Port Charlotte, Katrina (Rick) Launder of Port Charlotte, and Amelinda Wuolukka of North Port; brother, Ralph (Nancy) Calvano of Port Charlotte; and 18 grandchildren. William was preceded in death by his sister, Maria Tomkovich, who died in 1999.
Services will be private.
