Stanley Harvey Christian, 82, of North Port, Fla., passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at his residence, under the care of Tidewell Hospice.
He was born Feb. 24, 1932, in Iaeger, W.Va., and moved to North Port in 2008 from Ocala, Fla.
Stanley retired from the brewing industry after many years serving as the Quality Assurance Manager. His passions were his family and music. Stanley enjoyed playing music in all different venues, from a small stage in local pubs to jam sessions in the parks with his friends. He had an extraordinary musical talent, playing many instruments in a variety of genres. Stanley was best known as “Mojo Stan” for singing the blues and his charismatic personality. We will always carry his memory in our hearts.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donetta Christian of North Port; three sons, Russell (Carrie) Christian and Barry (Carrie) Christian, both of Rock Hill S.C., and Bryan (Casey) Christian of El Jobean, Fla.; two daughters, Mona (Ed) Boker of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Shannon Hiser of Tallahassee, Fla; a sister, Eunice (Darrell) Sovine of Greenville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Stanley also has many relatives in West Virginia, Indiana and Ohio who were dear to him.
Memorial services and inurnment will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2014, at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice Inc., 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238; or the ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease Association, 2180 Main St., Sarasota, FL 34237.
