Edward T. Bauer, 86, of North Port, Fla., passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014.
He was born June 4, 1928, in Middletown, Conn., the son of Frederick T. and Oralie (nee Counter) Bauer.
Edward was an active member of Living Waters Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte, Fla. He lived most of his adult life with Patricia in Ohio, where he served as Vice President of GTE (Verizon), retiring in 1985. Edward was manager of the Chamber of Commerce in New Philadelphia, Ohio, for more than five years. He and Patricia moved to Sarasota, Fla., and then to Port Charlotte. Edward was a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge of Middleport, Ohio, and had been active on the Board of Heritage Oak Park. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1946 to 1948. Edward loved to travel, play golf and ride his bicycle.
He is survived by his wife of six years, Vivian J. Bauer; his daughter, Polly Ann (Frank Dahlberg) Bauer; granddaughter, Kelly Sue (Matthew Fitchman) DeConnick; great-grandchildren, Henry Leo and Tallulah Fitchman; sisters, Lois Smith and Lucille Merunka of Middletown, Conn., and Edith Gallus of Medina, N.Y.; brother, David F. (Rachel) Bauer of Worthington, Ohio; Vivian’s brother, Roger (Sue) Wall of Martinsburg, W.Va.; many beloved nieces and nephews; and numerous friends and colleagues. Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Karr Bauer; and sisters, Elvira Lee and Dorothy Orinski.
The Rev. Dr. Dell Shiell, pastor, will conduct a Celebration of Life Service at 11 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2014, at Living Waters Lutheran Church, 12475 Chancellor Blvd, Port Charlotte, with a reception in the church hall following the service.
