PORT CHARLOTTE — The Tampa Bay Rays may start the season without reliever Juan Carlos Oviedo, whose visa issues delayed him from arriving to spring training for more than a month.

“We’ll continue to talk to (head trainer Ron Porterfield), but he is in jeopardy of not starting the season with us,” Rays manager Joe Maddon said. “You’ve got to consider everything. Not participating in the spring normally even exaggerates more what he’s coming through.”
