Aeromed unveils new helicopter

Members of the public had the opportunity to see and explore up close the new Aeromed medical transport helicopter during an open house held Thursday, March 13 at Bartow Municipal Airport, where Aeromed is stationed.

Despite its compact size, the new helicopter now in service by Aeromed still has the necessary equipment to transport an injury victim to the nearest medical center, as explained to a member of Polk County Fire Rescue (at left) by a member of Aeromed.

On Thursday, March 13, Tampa General Hospital and Aeromed (which is contracted with the hospital) officially unveiled its new helicopter: the Bell 407GX.

The helicopter is one of four that has been in use the past several months according to Bob McConnell, an Aeromed helicopter pilot based at Tampa General Hospital who was present to assist at the open house. The other helicopters are based in Sebring and Punta Gorda, with the fourth serving as backup.
