Bireda to speak about Blanchard House

The Blanchard House Museum of African-American History and Culture of Charlotte County includes the history of Punta Gorda in DeSoto County (1887-1921) before Charlotte County was formed.

The Blanchard House Museum is a stop on the Florida Black Heritage Trail, which includes sites throughout the state that commemorate the history of Florida's African-Americans.

Dr. Martha Bireda, executive director of the Blanchard House Museum of African-American History and Culture of Charlotte County, will speak about the Museum at today’s meeting of the DeSoto County Historical Society. Free and open to the public, the event will be at the Family Service Center Annex (the old West Elementary School cafeteria) at the corner of N. Orange Ave. and W. Effie St.

At 11:30 a.m., lunch including beverage and dessert is available for $6.00. At noon, President Adrian Cline will conduct a short business meeting before he introduces Bireda.
