NORTH PORT — Althea “Buddy” Hughes celebrates her 90th birthday today, and the city of North Port is highlighting her life.

Hughes served as a North Port city commissioner twice; from 1989-1993 and again from 1995-1998. She is still active in city politics and attends local meetings, often adding her viewpoints during public comment periods.
