Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell released additional information on Wednesday in a recent deputy-involved shooting in Englewood. He said Jacob Taulbee was shot eight times after allegedly charging deputies while armed with two knives.

This house on the 6200 block of Marcum Street in Englewood remained a crime scene Monday morning, as detectives continued their investigation into an officer-involved shooting. A Charlotte County sheriff's deputy who was dispatched to the home for a domestic call shot and killed a man there.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office paid a private Deerfield Beach, Fla., lab for DNA testing related to the homicide investigation from this September shooting crime scene on Salisbury Street in Port Charlotte. The expense was worth it, according to the CCSO, due to the fast results — enabling an arrest in a matter of days.

Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell is not backing down from the biggest annual budget boost he’s asked for in his four-plus years in office.

“Even I was surprised it came out so high,” said Prummell about the potential $4.1 million increase to his overall budget. “We’re trying to plan for the growth of the county.”
