Lee’s syphilis surge not as rampant in Charlotte

A surge in new syphilis cases that swept through Lee County in recent months has not hit the neighboring and nearby counties of Charlotte and Sarasota quite as hard, according to the Florida Department of Health.

So far this year in Lee County — Charlotte County’s adjacent neighbor to the south — 106 cases of syphilis have been confirmed this year, as opposed to 92 throughout all of 2016.
