Stormwatch: Schools closed, flights canceled, hotels booked as Irma approaches

In the advent of Hurricane Irma’s approach, some hotels and motels across the area confirmed they had few, if any, vacancies for this weekend as Charlotte County schools were closed and Allegiant flights were canceled for the rest of the week.

Charlotte County Public Schools Superintendent Steve Dionisio announced Wednesday that all schools were closed Thursday and Friday. School activities for Thursday, Friday and Saturday also were canceled, and the district expects to announce by Sunday the status for Monday, district spokesperson Michael Riley said.
