The Charlotte County Justice Center will remain closed through Friday. A press release from Sara Miles, spokesperson for the 20th Judicial Circuit, stated courthouses for the entire circuit will remain closed through Friday while hurricane damage is assessed, including Lee County, Collier County, Charlotte County, Hendry County and Glades County. The courthouses are expected to reopen Monday, but that could change as damage is assessed.
The Justice Center in Punta Gorda took in a “tremendous amount of water” to most work areas and one courtroom, according to Justice Center Administrator Jon Embury. Charlotte County Facilities Construction & Maintenance Director David Milligan said there was no flooding, but water seeped in through window seals along the north and east sides of the building on all floors.
