In a 4-1 vote, the DeSoto Memorial Hospital board of directors on Thursday closed the hospital’s maternity unit.
The vote allows DMH administrators to form plans with a Port Charlotte-based hospital, giving expectant DeSoto County mothers some choices. But that could take 90 days. And a current services contract with another provider ends Jan. 31, leaving expectant mothers with few options.
