“More often than not, our story has not been told, and this is the season for us to tell our story because only we can tell it,” said Brenda Johnson, vice president of the HCW Foundation, during her welcoming to the Foundation’s first Black History Month program on Saturday at Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Arcadia.
The HCW Foundation was the idea of Charles Washington, son of Helen Copeland Washington and whose initials name the foundation. Its mission is to collect, preserve, and share information about DeSoto County’s African-American history and culture, and to provide a museum and educational center for community outreach.
