Punta Gorda eyes ways to cut dependency on reserves

PUNTA GORDA — Offering ways to avoid a continued budget shortfall, Punta Gorda city staff said increases to millage rates or reductions in services would do the trick.

Should Punta Gorda maintain its 3.1969 millage rate and include $500,000 for enhanced drainage services, the city would have to use $672,000 in reserves to balance its budget for fiscal year 2019, Kristen Simeone, the city’s financial analyst, said during a recent City Council meeting.
