A Charlotte County circuit judge has ordered the Punta Gorda Police Officers Pension Board to consider the disability pension application of former officer Lee Coel.
A former K-9 officer, Coel was fired from the police department last March because of his role in the fatal shooting of retired citizen Mary Knowlton in August 2016. Coel, playing the “bad guy” in a scenario involving the Chamber of Commerce, believed he was shooting blanks but fired live rounds that killed Knowlton.
