SARASOTA COUNTY — The median area income for county residents has decreased by $2,600 from 2013, according to projections from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
According to the estimates, the median income for the county has decreased from $59,900 in 2013 to $57,300. Sarasota Office of Housing and Community Development director Donald Hadsell said that since federal and state laws limit assistance to families with income levels that are tied to the median income, this will mean that fewer families will be eligible to participate in city and county programs.
