DMS mercury spill triggers cleanup, school closure

DeSoto Middle School was closed down as of Tuesday and will remain closed for the rest of the week, all because an eighth grade student brought some liquid mercury to school.

School Superintendent Karyn Gary reported to the School Board Tuesday that a student had brought a “small amount” of the element to science class. Some of the mercury reportedly spilled.
