Take steps to fight cancer

Team captains lead the first lap of the overnight Punta Gorda Relay for Life event last April. This year's event is set to begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, stretching into the morning of April 6, around the track at Charlotte High School in Punta Gorda. Everyone is welcome, and all the teams need your fundraising dollars to help them reach their goals to help fight cancer.

Nearly 30 years ago, the Tacoma, Wash., surgeon decided he wanted to do something to raise money for his local American Cancer Society. So he laced up his sneakers and began to run.
