A bill proposed by state Sen. Nancy Detert that will put focus on Florida students having access to fine arts programs in school has passed — with an assist from Rep. Charles McBurney.
Detert, R-Venice, introduced SB 420, which would require the state to prepare an annual report detailing student access to and participation in such fine arts courses as visual arts, music, dance and theater. Her bill received unanimous approval by two state Senate committees, but stalled when it went to a third.
