The new Blue Star Memorial Marker — pictured here at the entrance to the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Nursing Home in Port Charlotte — was dedicated Saturday morning — Armed Forces Day. Sponsored by the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs Inc. and the Port Charlotte Garden Club, in cooperation with local veterans groups and members of the community, the plaque is “A tribute to the Armed Forces that have defended the United States of America.” Residents of the home joined the nearly 50 people who attended the ceremony, including representatives from veterans groups; state, county and local governments; and national, district and local garden clubs.
