NORTH PORT — City commissioners unanimously approved Monday a hydrological study of Warm Mineral Springs.
The study, titled “Warm Mineral Springs, Sarasota, Florida: A Summary of Retrospective Data,” will focus on water temperature, mineral makeup and water flow of the mineral-rich, 87-degree lake. It will be funded by both Sarasota County and the city of North Port — each contributing $15,000, and the U.S. Department of the Interior Geological Survey Florida Water Science Center, contributing $20,000 — and will be performed by the U.S. Geological Survey, or USGS. The county and city jointly own the 81-acre Springs property.
