Local lodge proves: 'Elks care and Elks share'

One of the 67 cabins situated on the 405-acre Elks Youth Camp. The Punta Gorda Lodge buses to the camp children with prostheses, those from foster homes, burn victims, and those from military families.


The ropes course builds confidence and self-esteem in the children attending the Elks Youth Camp.

PUNTA GORDA – Bill Jameson, a past exalted ruler of Punta Gorda Elks Lodge 2606, discovered a very interesting, but disturbing fact — the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is number two in the country when donating to children and veterans’ causes — but they are next to last in being known about it.

“Mike Smith, the grand exalted ruler at the time, told us at the national convention,” Jameson said. “Elks lodges across the country give so much, but they get no recognition.”
