Share this story:

Kelly Clark, a Port Charlotte High School student, developed a close relationship with a patient, Jordan, when she went to Gautemala with the Free to Smile Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides free cleft palate surgery.

Mary Fred Clemmons, right, executive director of the Charlotte Local Education Foundation, accepts a $300 check from Jacqueline Benjamin, manager of the Charlotte State Bank & Trust Parkside/Midtown office. A well-done to Kelly Clark. The golfer at Port Charlotte High School not long ago went to Guatemala with the Free to Smile Foundation, a nonprofit that provides corrective surgery for children with cleft lips and palates.

Working in the dental assisting clinic, she brought in golf balls to juggle for the patients one day. When she dropped one, it bounced, and one of the children, Jordan, stopped crying and wanted to play with the ball.
