Trip insurance doesn't cover the unexpected

In June, Esther Forti booked a $3,000, 14-day October Greek island cruise on Holland America Line’s Prinsendam for herself and a traveling companion. The 72-year-old Port Charlotte resident independently booked $2,400 worth of nonrefundable airline tickets to get to Athens. She also purchased separate travel insurance policies for the airfare and cruise.

Then came the unexpected.
