It was in the late 1930s. Uncle Bob gave us a ride all the way from Surfside to Coral Gables. We passed the famous Biltmore Golf Course and stopped at the Biltmore Hotel. The tallest building in Florida, it was a sumptuous palace in the Mediterranean style, as was much of the Gables.
We soon found ourselves on the metal bleachers overlooking the largest swimming pool I had ever seen. Pete Desjardins, an Olympic diving champion, was putting on his swimming show. Across from the bleachers was the highest diving tower I have ever seen. We were there to see our beautiful, athletic cousin Ginny perform in the show as the human fish. A daring diver did an elaborate flip from the tower through a flaming ring floating on the pool surface.
