After farming his land for 10 years, my dad built houses there. His 1942 Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio University, with majors in horticulture and agronomy, made him a better farmer. The crops produced cut the cost of food needed to feed eight kids.
My last two “Metaphors for the Church” columns about a house and a field are the result of Dad’s experience. We’re told in 1 Corinthians 3:8-9, “The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they’ll each be rewarded according to their own labor. For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.”
