Did you know that once a year, there’s a small window of opportunity to contest the valuation of your property that then is used as the basis to calculate your real estate taxes? And the time to contest that valuation is now!
The TRIM (truth in millage) notices have been mailed out on the 235,000 properties in Charlotte County, and while our county Property Appraiser’s Office works hard to be as accurate as possible, some property owners may believe that their property value still is overvalued. If you fall into this category, don’t delay in sending in your petition to contest the value, along with the $15 fee (per contested property). The deadline to file in Charlotte County is Sept . 12.
