The situation began early this afternoon, and the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office responded with deputies and the SWAT team to the area near Marion Avenue and Old U.S. 41 in the Solana section of Punta Gorda. The Punta Gorda Police Department and Charlotte County Fire/EMS also had personnel on scene. Investigators at the scene were tight-lipped, but said the man is armed with a knife. They suspect a firearm is in the residence. No other people are in the residence. It is not known who called authorities or at what time.
