PUNTA GORDA — A 24-year-old Port Charlotte man was killed early Tuesday when his motorized bicycle collided with a pickup, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. At around 6 a.m., Angel Howard Hoyt was riding his bicycle north on U.S. 41 in Punta Gorda when he tried to turn left onto St. Pierre Road and struck a 2007 Ford pickup driven by Nicole Lee Prestipino, 33, of Port Charlotte, an FHP report stated. According to troopers, Prestipino was going about 50 mph and didn’t see the man until she hit him. Hoyt was thrown from the bike and was pronounced dead at the scene.

FHP said it was dark and Hoyt wasn’t wearing a helmet or reflectors, and he did not have any lights on his bike. Hoyt was an employee of the roofing company Dr. Goodroof. The company’s owner said Hoyt was driving to work when he was hit. The owner called him a good employee. U.S. 41 has since reopened.
