Hotlines and law enforcement agencies around the country receive around 3.4 million calls each year reporting child abuse, according to the most recent data from the Administration for Children and Families.
Florida’s Department of Children and Families investigates roughly 1,300 annual reports of abuse in Charlotte County alone, stemming from around 1,500 calls. The county makes up about 8 percent of the state’s total abuse reports.
