Wanted now: Deep pockets

Now that the results of a feasibility study for an aquarium in downtown Punta Gorda are in, the big questions on everyone’s mind is: Can proponents raise enough money to bring such a project to fruition, and who has coffers deep enough to support their vision?

The answers appear to depend on how folks interpret the consultant’s findings — released Thursday — which conclude that an aquarium is feasible downtown on the former City Marketplace site, but the price tag to develop and keep the aquarium afloat would cost as much as $67 million.
