PUNTA GORDA — Barbara Carley was just 21 years old when she began to experience the painful swelling of rheumatoid arthritis. Brought on at an early age due to the trauma of a car accident, her condition worsened over the years, causing her to go through 40 surgeries that included multiple replacements of the same joint and her neck being fused.

“I’m the bionic lady,” Carley, now 75, said during Saturday’s inaugural Rudolph’s Chase, a charity run and fundraiser.
