Three Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputies are on administrative leave following an officer-involved shooting Sunday morning in Port Charlotte in which no one was injured. The incident happened before 11 a.m. at a home in the area of West Tarpon Boulevard and Edgewater Drive. A person had called authorities reporting that a male relative living there intended to harm himself. Three deputies responded and, after unsuccessfully trying to contact the man, entered the house while announcing themselves as law enforcement officers, according to Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Debbie Bowe. While trying to locate the man, one shot was fired but didn’t hit anyone. The Sheriff’s Office did not immediately specify whether the deputies or the occupant fired. No one was injured, and the deputies took the man into custody. The deputies were placed on administrative leave while the department investigates the incident, which is the policy for shooting incidents involving personnel, according to Bowe.
