PUNTA GORDA — Inside the Parrot Outreach Society’s rescue shelter on Elizabeth Street, the squawks and chatter of more than 90 animated birds is near deafening. But for Pam Hill, the nonprofit’s founder and director, the sounds are soothing.

“We have some interesting conversations that go on back there,” Hill said, smiling.
